3 Days of Birding Bliss in Amboseli – 9–11 May 2025 with Monica Wambui
I had the pleasure of spending three days at Amboseli Sopa Lodge from 9–11 May 2025, on a birding safari with our consultant Monica Wambui. From the moment we arrived, the lodge staff extended a warm and welcoming hospitality that set the tone for a peaceful and immersive nature experience.
The visit coincided with the rainy season, which transformed the park into a lush, green haven. Due to the tall grasses and abundance of water, many large mammals had moved into the surrounding areas. However, the wetlands were alive with bird activity, making it a paradise for bird enthusiasts.
During our half-day birding game drive, we encountered an impressive variety of species. Water birds were in abundance, including pelicans, Egyptian geese, sacred ibis, and herons. Other notable sightings included the blacksmith lapwing, crowned plover, Malachite kingfisher, cattle egret, grey crowned crane, and the striking Secretary bird.
